Rob Groves vs Oscar Materoa

Boxing Daily Report from the Kiwi Boxing Academy promoted show at ABA Stadium, Auckland,  taking place on 06/05/2033:

The venue is completely packed out with the fans turning out in force to watch the fights on offer tonight.  
Next up is the main event of the show.  This is a semi final eliminator for the New Zealand Lightweight title.  

Looking to impress the boxing fans in attendance and those watching live on Prime, the two fighters competing in this 12 round matchup are Rob Groves (12(6) - 1(1) - 1) who hails from Christchurch, New Zealand and Oscar Materoa(21(1) - 8(1)) from North Shore, New Zealand.  Both Groves and Materoa weighed in at 135 pounds.  
The referee tonight is Robert Smillie, and the three ringside judges are Mark Vaux, Aaron Glendinning and Mark Kinzey.  

Round 1: 

Groves tries to keep the action at long range and lands a cross to the head followed by a jab to the body.  He continues the combination and lands two consecutive straights to his opponents head.  
Groves is on target with a ramrod jab.  
Materoa gets on the inside and throws a left hook, but his opponent parries the shot and counters with a stinging left uppercut to his opponents ribs.  
Groves steps away from his opponent and lands a double jab to his opponents head.  
Groves is on target with a jab to Materoa's body.  
Materoa gets on the inside and throws a left hook, but his opponent sidesteps and counters with a cross.  
Groves lands a hard jab.  
Materoa gets on the inside.  Groves lands a left hook to the body, and then to the head.  
Groves lands a right hook to the body, a left hook to the head and a right hook to the head.  
Groves drives a jab into Materoa's body.  
Materoa closes the distance and forces Groves to retreat onto the ropes.  Groves lands a right hook to the body, and then to the head.  
Materoa throws a right hook, but his opponent blocks the shot and counters with a firm cross.  
Materoa steps inside.  Groves pivots to the left of his opponent and lands a right hook to the head, a left hook to the head and a left hook to the body.  
Groves hits home with a sharp overhand right.  
Groves feints a left hook, and then connects with a sharp overhand right.  
Groves drives a solid left hook into his opponents body.  
Materoa tries to land a right hook, but his opponent parries the shot and counters with a left hook to his opponents ribs.  
Materoa steps inside and is on target with a left hook.  Groves ties up his opponent.  The ref calls break and the two fighters separate.  
Groves lands a right hook.  
At the end of Round 1, lets listen in on the corners...Materoa's trainer is advising how he could be more accurate.  Materoa's trainer is telling his fighter to increase his workrate.  Materoa's trainer is advising how he could stop so many clean shots getting through.

Groves is looking to put the pressure on now...he knows a few clean shots could mean an early night.  Groves lands a left uppercut, cross and a left hook to his opponents head, AND SENDS MATEROA TO THE CANVAS!  He is back up on his feet at 4.  Materoa now appears to have recovered from that earlier shot.  
Materoa advances into close range.  Groves drives a left uppercut into his opponents body.  
Groves is looking to keep the action on the outside.  Materoa tries to land a cross, but Groves slips the shot and counters with a spiteful right hook.  IT LOOKS LIKE MATEROA WAS HURT BY THAT SHOT!  Materoa recovers before his opponent can take advantage.

Materoa throws a left hook, but Groves holds on to his opponent.  Materoa is using his forearm in the clinch.  The referee breaks the clinch and warns Materoa to stop fouling.  
Materoa manouvers his opponent onto the ropes.  Materoa connects with a left hook.  
Groves switches the action to the outside.  Groves sidesteps to the left of his opponent and lands an overhand left followed by a jab to his opponents head.  
Materoa gets on the inside and throws a right hook, but Groves clinches his opponent.  Groves leans on his opponent using all his weight. The ref breaks the clinch and signals for the action to continue.

Materoa gets on the inside and tries to land a left hook, but Groves slips the shot and counters with a mean left hook.  MATEROA HAS BEEN KNOCKED DOWN!  He manages to get up at 6.
