Joaquin Velo vs Gonzalo Placencia

Boxing Daily Report from the ADR Boxing promoted show at Ninoy Aquino Stadium, Manila,  taking place on 31/01/2026:

The venue is completely packed out with the fans turning out in force to watch the fights on offer tonight.  
Next up we have one of the supporting contests of this show.  This is a semi final eliminator for the Philippines Minimumweight title.  

Looking to impress the boxing fans in attendance, the two fighters competing in this 12 round matchup are Joaquin Velo (8 - 3 - 2) who hails from Santa Maria, Philippines and Gonzalo Placencia(13 - 2) from Santa Maria, Philippines.  Both Velo and Placencia weighed in at 105 pounds.  
The referee tonight is Wayne Linsangan, and the three ringside judges are Leonardo Callangan, Neron Calibugan and Alen Cusi.  

Round 1: 

Placencia pivots to the right of his opponent and connects with a right hook.  As Placencia tries to work on the inside, the fighters heads come together!  The ref does not appear to have noticed the clash as Velo dabs at his face checking for damage.  
Placencia advances into close range.  Placencia quickly sidesteps from in front of his opponent.  Velo throws a right uppercut, but his opponent blocks the shot and counters with a cross.  
Placencia lands a straight 1 - 2.  
Velo steps inside.  Placencia lands a left hook to the head followed by a right hook to the body.  
Placencia steps inside.  Velo throws a left uppercut, but Placencia holds on to his opponent.  Placencia pushes his forearm into Velo's face.  The ref halts the action and breaks the clinch.  He lectures Placencia about fouling.
